چکیده

IceCube is a 1 km neutrino telescope currently under construction at the South Pole. The detector will consist of 5160 optical sensors deployed at depths between 1450 m and 2450 m in clear Antarctic ice evenly distributed over 86 strings. An air shower array covering a surface area of 1 km above the in-ice detector will measure cosmic ray air showers in the energy range from 300 TeV to above 1 EeV. The detector is designed to detect neutrinos of all flavors: νe, νμ and ντ. With 59 strings currently in operation, construction is 67% complete. Based on data taken to date, the observatory meets its design goals. Selected results will be presented.

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE A radio air shower surface detector as an extension for IceCube and IceTop

The IceCube neutrino detector is built into the Antarctic ice sheet at the South Pole to measure high energy neutrinos. For this, 4800 photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) are being deployed at depths between 1450 and 2450 meters into the ice to measure neutrino induced charged particles like muons. IceTop is a surface air shower detector consisting of 160 Cherenkov ice tanks located on top of IceCube....

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Coincident TeV Neutrino and Gamma Ray Observations

The IceCube detector is already the world’s largest neutrino detector and when completed in 2011, will be a cubic kilometer in volume. However, even under optimistic assumptions about neutrino emission, the potential neutrino signal in IceCube from AGN and GRBs may be small. The atmospheric neutrino background after cuts will result in 1-2 neutrinos/yr/km/deg above 1 TeV. For a three year obser...

Observation of Anisotropy in the Galactic Cosmic Ray Arrival Directions at 400 Tev with Icecube

In this paper we report the first observation in the Southern hemisphere of an energy dependence in the Galactic cosmic ray anisotropy up to a few hundred TeV. This measurement was performed using cosmic ray induced muons recorded by the partially deployed IceCube observatory between May 2009 and May 2010. The data include a total of 33×10 muon events with a median angular resolution of ∼ 3◦ de...

Kilometer-scale neutrino detectors such as IceCube are discovery instruments covering nuclear and particle physics, cosmology and astronomy. Examples of their multidisciplinary missions include the search for the particle nature of dark matter and for additional small dimensions of space. In the end, their conceptual design is very much anchored to the observational fact that Nature produces pr...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Search for Intermediate-Scale Anisotropy by the HiRes Experiment

The HiRes collaboration has searched for intermediate-scale anisotropy of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays in two ways: first a search for variation with declination of the flux of cosmic rays, and second in their arrival directions. The data of the HiRes-II detector was used in the search.
